Freya's Panama Canal Transit, March 24, 2005

The above Animated GIF file was created from copies of web pages. The Panama Canal has a web cam trained on the locks which you can access from the Panama Canal Web Site. On the left of this page is a link to Live Cameras.

There is also an e-mail address on the Live Cameras page that you can write to in order to request changes to the camera's camera angle. When Barb, Anita, and Dan were watching for Freya to transit, we sent a message asking them to please watch out for the boat. It is not guaranteed that the folks running the cameras will be able to honor the request, but in our case, they did.

The sequence of pictures you see above was captured from the web site by doing a "print screen" operation and then pasting the image into a Microsoft Word document. The images in the Word document were then saved out individually into .jpg files, and then the smaller images were cut and pasted from the full image of the web site.

The Word document is also available for you to download if you want it. It has been put into a .zip archive file to take advantage of the compression, but it is still a very large file at about 8.3 MBytes. Nevertheless, if you want it, you can download the file by clicking HERE and saving the file on your machine. You may get better quality if you want to muck with the images yourself.

Many thanks to the Panama Canal folks, whomever you are, for training your cameras on Freya for her passage.
